Hart Park Red Hatters

Joan Butler admires a porcelain doll.

This is a fun-loving group of ladies, age 50+, who wear their purple tops and red hats with pride. We enjoy each other’s company, explore new adventures and form new friendships.

We meet on the third Monday of each month, here at the Senior Center, at 1:00 pm. There is a yearly membership fee of $10 and a monthly treat fee of $2.

Sometimes we go out on the town and other times we stay at Hart Park. There is also the option of an outing once a month with another group. Additional costs apply.

For more information on becoming a Hart Park Red Hatter, call Carol Anderson at 774-2441.

We always have room for new members!

Director’s Dialog

Plato wrote, “The beginning is the most important part of the work.” Lately I seem to be having trouble with beginnings - and middles – and ends. Maybe it’s because there are just so many things that have to get done this time of the year. And then, there are the things I want to do. Obviously, these two groups of things seldom intersect. My husband says to make a list and prioritize. I think that means I have to choose what is most important.

To further procrastinate, I looked up the word priority. Now, the nice thing about dictionaries is that they frequently show multiple meanings for words. That means I get to choose the one I like best. With this word, all the definitions seemed to work. What else could I do but shut my eyes, poke a pin down and let fate get involved. (Hey, not all decisions are made logically!) The pin poked “The act or fact of coming before in order of importance or in order of preference.” I guess I do have to make some choices if I choose to prioritize.

A list will be a good beginning. There is an English proverb that says, “A good beginning makes a good ending.” And if I have trouble choosing priorities, there is always the pin-poke method.

Keep cool, Merry

Leap...into Lunchtime

First Aid Tidbits

Bee Stings-Gently remove stinger by scraping out with a firm edge, such as on a credit card. Clean sting site and apply ice to minimize swelling. A topical anesthetic may help. How-ever, if breathing becomes hindered/difficult, seek emergency treatment ASAP.

Ticks-Use tweezers and grasp the tick as close to your skin as possible. Pull it straight out. Disinfect the area. If you develop a rash, fever, aching muscles, fatigue, or swelling of joints, call your doctor to get tested for Lyme disease.

Minor Burns-Cool minor burns under cold run-ning water or a cold compress. Do not put ice directly on skin. Never put butter on a burn! Wrap injured area loosely with a gauze or cloth bandage to keep it clean.

Sunburn-Soothe sunburn with cool compresses, aloe vera, or by taking cool oatmeal baths. There are other products you can purchase that ease the pain; lotions can help, as well. If blisters or a fever develop, contact your doctor.

Drink lots of water and have a safe summer!
