Director’s Dialog

April is an interesting month, filled with unexpected contrasts and optimism. Nothing happens quite when you expect it to in April. Farkas Bolyai, a mid-19th century Hungarian mathematician, wrote, "When the time is ripe for certain things, these things appear in different places in the manner of violets coming to light in the early spring." April has so many seasonal contrasts: Freezing, wet snow and warm spring showers which both bring about vibrant colors from the dead land, carpets of white snow with crocus peeking out and carpets of crocus being blanketed with more snow, glorious June sunlight piercing rolling black February skies. All are well worked themes in April literature. Aristotle wrote, "One swallow does not make a spring, nor does one fine day." Robert Frost wrote, "The sun was warm but the wind was chill. You know how it is with an April day." And Shakespeare wrote in Romeo and Juliet, “When well-apparel'd April on the heel of limping winter treads…” You just never know what to expect and when to expect it when it comes to April. And that’s where the optimism comes in. You know that May, in all its’ glory, is the month after April. To misquote Susan J. Bissonette, "An optimist is the human personification of April." Enjoy all of April’s bluster as it somersaults into May.

     Merry Noel

(Happy Anniversary, Dan and thank you.)

Hart Park Senior Center and Nutrition Site closes when the Milwaukee Public Schools close for emergencies, even though we are located in Wauwatosa. Remember, when MPS closes due to weather, so does Hart Park Senior Center and Nutrition Site.

“ICE” Your Cell Phone

Paramedics and EMT’s will turn to a victim’s cell phone for clues to that person’s identity. You can make their job much easier with a single idea they are trying to get everyone to adopt: “ICE”.

“ICE” stands for “In Case of Emergency”. If you add an entry in the contacts list on your cell phone under the name ICE, with the name and phone number of the

person that the emergency services should call on your behalf, you can quickly save them a lot of time and have your loved ones contacted immediately. It only takes a few moments to do.

Paramedics know what ICE means and look for it immediately!!!

“ICE” your cell phone now!!!
